It's back to Bayview this evening for the second Pars pre-season friendly, this time against the Wee Team. The game is a Raith 'home' fixture but with Stark's Park having an artificial pitch being laid, tonight's match has been switched to East Fife's stadium. On Saturday, Dunfermline defeated East Fife 2-1 in Methil with goals from Matty Todd and Lewis McCann, both products of the youth system, with the goals coming after the entire Pars first team were substituted after an hour and replaced by the youths. We can expect to see more of the young players tonight, although whether 2 different Dunfermline teams take part, or a mixture of the senior and youth squads, remains to be seen.
This evening's game will see 2 of last season's Pars midfielders returning to action, one on each side. James Vincent yesterday signed a year long loan deal from Dundee (full article here) and will be a useful addition to the Dunfermline midfield, as he was in the final 6 months of last season when he was also on loan from Dundee. Nat Wedderburn, released by Dunfermline at the end of his contract in May after 2 years at EEP, has signed for the Wee Team and we can expect to see the big man in the opposition line up tonight.
We should never read too much into friendly games - the best example being the dreadful performance and result last summer when the Pars lost to Raith in a warm up game but went onto enjoy a tremendous start to the season in League and Cup games once the competitive action started. It will be good to see the players signed over the summer - myself and my son both had to miss Saturday's game, the first game of any type we have both been unable to go to in over 2 years, but we will post a full match report of tonight's game a few hours after the fulltime whistle.
Lee Ashcroft, Tom Beadling, Lee Robinson and Joe Thomson were all absent from the East Fife game and there has been no confirmation as to whether they will be included tonight.
