22 year old striker Andy Ryan joined Dunfermline today on a 2 year contract from Airdrie. An (undisclosed) fee was involved as the player still had a year remaining on his Airdrie contract. Back in May, my son and I were at the Airdrie v Alloa promotion play-off first leg game, when Ryan scored the only goal in a 1-0 Airdrie win. We were immediately impressed with the young striker (see Tweet below), and having spotted Allan Johnston and Sandy Clark in the stand, also remarked on Twitter:
Andy Ryan was also among the players listed in the Pars Review article "Scouting", from March this year: www.parsreview.org/blog/scouting. He began his career at Hamilton, starting 21 games but spending the majority of his time on loan at Brechin and Arbroath. His next move, signing for Forfar in 2016, produced 9 goals in 17 games. It was during that period that I first saw Ryan play, in the 2-2 draw between the Pars and Forfar at EEP in April 2016, in which Ryan scored. A move to Airdrie followed last summer, and he ended the season as the top scorer in Scotland, with 27 goals in 41 games.
This is exactly the type of player required for a promotion challenge this season. A proven goalscorer, Ryan is also pacy and physically bears a resemblance to Faissal El Bakhtaoui in his build and movement. As the Tweets and the blog "Scouting" article referenced above would suggest, I am delighted with this signing.
The YouTube video below shows all 27 of his Airdrie goals from last season.
