An impressive display by John Potter's young team saw the Pars progress to the third round of the Scottish Youth Cup. The game was played on the astroturf pitch next to Livingston's Tony Macaroni (Almondvale) Arena.
With no overage players allowed in the competition, Dunfermline lined up with a 4-4-2 formation, with Scotland Under 19 defender Stuart Morrison returning to the side after his recent spell with the national youth side.
The Pars quickly took a firm hold on the game, and it took only 6 minutes to go ahead, 16 year old Callum Smith (pictured, right) finishing off a move that involved Conner Duthie and Ciaran Lafferty. Smith then had another couple of chances that he put over the bar. Another opportunity to double the lead came through the award of a penalty after a Livi defender had handled. Unfortunately, the penalty curse that has affected the first team extended to the young Pars, when Reece Duncan's shot was saved by Livi keeper Quinn in the 24th minute. Pars keeper Cammy Gill was rarely involved but he did well to save from close range following a rare Livi attack.
The second half began with Brandon Luke replacing Robbie Crawford, which saw Scott Lochhead move from left to right wing and Luke play on the left. In 61 minutes it was Lochhead who doubled Dunfermline's lead with a shot from the edge of the box after the ball had fallen to him from a Pars corner. Lochhead then got his second and Dunfermline's third in the 69th minute. A long pass down the side with the outside of his foot by Luke was played in by Lafferty for Lochhead to finish off.
Dunfermline continued to dominate and only 2 offside calls and some near misses prevented the scoreline from becoming embarrassing for the home side.
In the 70th minute James Thomas replaced Ciaran Lafferty and the final Pars substitution saw Matthew Todd come on for Evan Horne. Todd had only been on the field for 4 minutes when his 85th minute shot from 20 yards flew into the net to seal a resounding Pars victory.
