In wet and windy weather at Kelty's New Central Park ground, John Potter's Under 20s recorded an impressive win over a Motherwell side that would have gone top of the SPFL Development League table, had they won today's game. Instead, Dunfermline climb to 6th place in the table, 5 points behind leaders Hibs. The full table is posted below.
The Pars began with Cammy Gill in goals, Reece Duncan and Conner Duthie at right and left back, Stuart Morrison and Paul Allan in central defence, Robbie Crawford in right midfield, Evan Horne and Lewis Spence in the middle, and Michael Paton on the left midfield. David Hopkirk and Callum Smith were up front. Spence, Hopkirk and Paton were over-age players.
It was Smith who gave Dunfermline the lead after just 4 minutes. A Motherwell defender misplaced a pass in the penalty box and it fell to Smith who put the ball in the net from a few yards out. Motherwell then scored twice in 2 minutes: the first was a thunderous finish by Blyth in the 11th minute. Turnbull then put the visitors ahead after some slackness in the Pars defence.
David Hopkirk equalised for the Pars after 26 minutes, taking a pass from Conner Duthie and confidently placing the ball beyond the reach of Motherwell keeper Griffiths.
The winning goal, and the best goal of the game, came in the 31st minute. Conner Duthie gathered the ball on the left side, ran forward and hit a fantastic shot into the net.
The second half produced no further goals, although Smith came close for Dunfermline, while Mackin had a good effort for Motherwell that narrowly missed.
